Results of a research study on the effectiveness of McGruff^®'s "TAKE A BITE OUT OF CRIME" public service advertising campaign:

Public Service Advertising Changes Attitudes and
Generates Preventive Action
McGruff^® Background Information:

Research conducted in 1987 showed that some 99 percent of children in the 6- to 12-year-old age group recognize and understand the McGruff^® campaign
In 1987, 80% of adults recalled having seen the McGruff^® public service advertising (PSAs)
In 1987, one-third who had seen the Public Service Advertising had learned from them; one-fifth who had seen them had taken preventive actions
In 1987, almost half reported feeling more personally responsible for preventing crime; slightly more than half said they had become more concerned about the crime problem
In 1987, a substantial majority said the Public Service Advertising was effective in increasing their own crime prevention awareness (70 percent) and children's awareness of crime prevention (90 percent)
